Once upon a time in the arid beauty of Colorado's high desert, an outdoor enthusiast named Duane faced a familiar, frustrating problem: dry, itchy skin, ashy and sore muscles from long days canyoneering, backpacking, hiking, gardening, and exercising under the sun, wind, and cold.

Called to steward the body as God's temple (1 Corinthians 6:19–20) and do whatever her hands find to do with all her might (Ecclesiastes 9:10), Duane sought skincare that honored her faith, her values, her health, and nature — but most products contained harsh chemicals or simply failed, leaving skin worse off.

Determined to create a natural solution aligned with faith, health, and sustainability, Duane drew on her expertise as a National Board Certified Health and Wellness Coach, Certified Permaculture Designer, Clinical Mental Health professional, and former Clinical Lab Scientist. Before Outdoorsy Skincare, Duane spent years analyzing body fluids and their constituents at Stanford Hospital and other reference laboratories, running clinical trial and specialized testing work. That background taught her to read an ingredient list the way most people read a warning label — she knows exactly what a compound is doing at a molecular level, and exactly what it takes for a formula to be genuinely clean, not just labeled that way.

She brought that same rigor home. Drawing on her permaculture design training, Duane began growing her own herbs, researching their properties, and formulating her own skincare from scratch — testing each version on herself in the outdoor settings that demand the most from skin: Colorado and Utah, where sun, wind, altitude, and dry cold don't leave room for a formula that only sort of works. With over a decade working with herbs and natural formulas — using plants grown in her own food forest backyard — Outdoorsy Skincare was born.

That search for a real answer became FLOW — Food, Lifestyle, Outside Care, and Water — the framework Duane now uses to formulate every product and teach every woman who finds us.
